The Girl and the Cloud
Tensions will run high. The illustration on the verso page is the one we saw on the front cover. I find the endpapers quite shocking in their bright red, with the coloured crayons dispersed among the black andd. This one is definitely not for you if you like happy books. We experience every aspect of their trials and tribulations as they travel through life and time. Tensions will run high. When Laurie faces cancer, it is Daughter Grace who stays by her gril and oversees her care. A Cloud in the Shape of a Girl is a poignant novel about three generations of the Wise family-Evelyn, and Grace-as they hunt for contentment amid the chaos of their own making?
An exquisitely rendered chronicle of three women's lives and loves. Per Silvia 5 years ago. Each woman book something she is dealing with ranging from marital issues, so hate to do her a disservice by condemning her book or writ. This is the first novel I have read by Jean Thompson.
Grace wanted to be different. I dare you not to read this book and not think about your mother. Plus, receive recommendations for your next Book Club read. Jean Thompson has definitely entered my very short "will read whatever this author writes" list.

It's not that I can't handle a tragic turn or some abrupt plot twists in I have some crazy mixed feelings about this book. Welcome back. I struggled through the last 50 pages shaking my head. The novel of male discontent almost always a straight cis white male, well-off. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read.
The ones that never get told. Jean Thompson has an extraordinary gift of writing and I can see why she is well loved by her readers! When her father died it had not been unexpected, exactly-he was by then a very thr man-and it had gone quickly. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.
She is in hospice care with her daughter, Laura, at her side. The end result is much destruction and pain, although this dark, powerfully honest story also has an inner light that shines in glimpsed moments of courage. Women portrayed in this book are resilient, making the best of the lives they end up living. It is possible, even, to rebuild a shattered life and emerge from the shadows of secrets. No one writing today is better at this. In many of these small moments, Thompson shows us how beholden families are to ingrained patterns of behavior and how these patterns govern their every interaction.
