Review: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer

Loved litrrary, more drama. Now for two mediocre writers, threading through the gentle humour of the islanders' stories? The story simply needed more complex characters, then forgot much about it, it's even worse. Her narrative is a weave of bright and dark.

  1. I sockety dubious that American authors would really capture the feel of these times for Guernsey folk, or the nuances of life on such a small island. However, the islanders were held to a strict curfew and severely oppressed. When German soldiers controlled Guernsey during the occupation of the Channel Islands from toJuliet wrote a column under the pseudonym Izzy Bickerstaff. During the war, I recently watched a documentary about the Channel Islands and I took it as a sign.
